You’ve all seen Pinterest crafts that use an unholy amount of mason jars, well read along to see how I attempted to let my ambition guide the way as I was given 48 jars (not mason) to repurpose into gifts this holiday season.
How the project started: At Thanksgiving my great-aunt Edna gave my Grandma a huge paper bag filled with jars because she knew she canned jams. Unfortunately, most of the jars were not canning jars and rather a bunch of jars from old food (like olives, artichokes, etc,. This lady has class!) and could not be of use to my Grandma. Knowing I was a crafty son of a bitch, my Grandma gave me the jars hoping I could use them to make body scrubs or something as gifts.

The Stages of Emotion:

Stages of the Project:
1) Getting really excited about all the cool jars!
2) Having to clean out the jars and being disgusted with the gross smells of left over pickles and other residues. Also having to peel off labels of many jars, which required hours of presoaking, and then getting impatient with the soaking and attempting to scrub them off.
3) Numbering the jars individually and their matching lids.
4) Spray painting lids with capacious amounts of glitter.
5) Making the stuff to fill said jars, e.g: Chai mix, caramels (which took multiple nights of listening to Aqua with mom and wrapping each caramel) and body scrubs.
6) Decorating each jar. My obvious perfectionist attitude made me complicate things by coming up with a “theme” for each family, and getting really fancy.
7) After tears, frustration, and insanity I finished the project. A sense of accomplishment overwhelmed me. It’s like a dad watching his son score a touchdown, but instead I was both the son and the dad, and I scored a major crafty touchdown! Booya.
Okay so here are my lovely ladies (and dudes) posing for the camera. Photo shoot!

My favorite collection, for the grandparents!
Now I shall leave you with some good advice and inspiration for the next time you decide to takle a big project.
“I do not believe in excuses. I believe in hard work as the prime solvent of life’s problems.”
“What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.”
Next time you are given a project you can decide for yourself if this is going to be another, “I’ll get to it later” or is it going to be a “I’m so glad I actually did this!” moment.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
